MesenFlow Technologies contributes to the mechanism-of-action validation of N-Feruloyl Serotonin for skin-soothing innovation

In October 2021, a new skin-soothing cosmetic active containing N-Feruloyl Serotonin was launched to the market, supported by scientific studies conducted in collaboration with MesenFlow.

Using our advanced human cell-based inflammation and endothelial biology platforms, MesenFlow investigated the anti-inflammatory mechanism of this naturally derived bioactive compound. N-Feruloyl Serotonin, a plant-derived phenolic amide notably found in cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) extracts, is recognized for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Our studies demonstrated that N-Feruloyl Serotonin reduces the expression of endothelial adhesion molecules VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 in a dose-dependent manner in TNF-α-stilmulated endothelial cells.

As these molecules are key mediators of leukocyte-endothelium interactions, their downregulation resulted in

  • Inhibition of monocyte transmigration across the endothelial barrier
  • Reduced immune cell recruitment into skin tissue
  • Lower cutaneous inflammatory response

These findings support the use of N-Feruloyl Serotonin as an effective active ingredient for reducing skin inflammation and improving comfort in sensitive or reactive skin formulations.

This collaboration highlights MesenFlow’s expertise in delivering translational
